Week 1 Reflective Journal

After watching the video, some of the key developments that I think have been most significant are Pythagoras Academy, paper, the printing press, books and the development of public education in the 1600's.
    • Explain why your choices can be considered “key developments”.
I feel that these are key developments, especially the development of public education, because with out them we wouldn;t have the technology we have today. Everything that happened in the past with books, the black board, the printing press, etc...has led us to the interactive technology we know and use today.
    • Reflect upon your experience with technology in the classroom (for example, from possibly low tech overhead projectors to high-tech interactive white boards).
When I first started school back in the late 80's-early 90's, we were just getting into the technology era in the classroom. We used black boards, overhead projectors so that the class could see an image the teacher was sharing, televisions to watch documentaries(and occasionally fun movies). It wasn't until I started sixth grade that computers even made appearances in the schools. Even then we all had to go down to a computer lab to practice typing skills. Now, computers are readily available in the classroom and at home. I myself own a laptop and a tablet that I use for school and personal purposes.
    • Describe how the use of technology increased or decreased your learning and explain why.
I feel that technology has increased my learning. I have learned how to do basic repairs on my laptop, I know how to install programs, and I use the internet to do research and find facts and articles that I might not have found at my local library if I were to do old fashioned research. It has also increased my learning in that I am able to participate in these online classes offered by Ashford to earn my degree, whereas before the “informaion age”, I would have had to go to a campus and take the classes.
